‘Round 6’ creator explains season two finale

However, it was the end of the season that really shocked fans, with the death of Jung-bae, Gi-hun’s best friend, an event that completely changes the course of the story.

Why did Jung-bae die in Round 6 Season 2?

Hwang Dong-hyukcreator of ‘Round 6’, shared with Variety magazine the reasoning behind killing Jung-bae in front of Gi-hun.

“When you look at Gi-hun’s story, every attempt he makes to stop the game: the first, recruiting mercenaries and trying to plant a tracking device, fails; the second attempt, trying to persuade people to vote to leave of the game, also fails; and finally, the third attempt, to unite people and cause a rebellion, equally fails. All of these failures lead to an intense and heavy crisis, culminating in the loss of his best friend, Jung-bae, by. hands of Front Man. Thinking about the journey of Gi-hun, I thought this was an appropriate time to wrap up and give him a little bit of closure within this long story arc, and from that point on, in the third season, with this huge weight of guilt and sense of failure hanging over. him — how will Gi-hun continue his mission? That’s the story that will unfold next.”

This decision to end the second season with Jung-bae’s death marks a turning point in Gi-hun’s journey, setting the stage for a new chapter. Dong-hyuk also spoke about the impact of this tragedy on the life of the main character of the plot: “How will Gi-hun continue his mission? This is the story that will unfold next”, he revealed.

Furthermore, the creator said that the season’s post-credits scene gives a hint of what to expect from the third season.

“If you saw the hidden scene that appears after the end credits of the last episode of Season 2 — if you watch that clip, you’ll get a slight hint as to where Season 3 might take you. I think that’s all I can say, for now.”

With the first two seasons now available on Netflix, fans are eagerly awaiting the third, while speculation about the future of ‘Round 6’ continues to grow.
