Discover which character almost gained more prominence in the plot of ‘Sonic 3’ and what changed in the story’s plans
‘Sonic 3’ hit theaters this week, and fans were not only able to watch the long-awaited confrontation between Sonic and his powerful rival Shadow, but they also witnessed the debut of Amy Rose, who appears in the post-credits scene rescuing the blue hedgehog from a horde of Metal Sonics.
However, what many don’t know is that Amy almost had a bigger role in the film. In an interview, the screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Millerrevealed that, initially, there were plans to include the character in the main story of the film, but these plans were adjusted to avoid overloading the plot.
Casey explained that, during the development process, they discussed a lot about the possibility of bringing Amy into the main narrative, but realized that the plot was already full of events and characters, including the introduction of Shadow. “We didn’t want to take the focus off Shadow, who was the main antagonist”, commented the screenwriter.
Furthermore, the professional highlighted that there was a concern about not giving the hedgehog too small a role, as she was one of the characters most anticipated by fans. The pressure to meet the expectations of those who expected to see the character in the film was an important motivation for her inclusion, even if it was in a more restrained form.
Although Amy does not participate in the main plot, her introduction in the post-credits scene was a way to ensure that her presence was felt without detracting from the story’s development. For the writers, the post-credits scene was a natural choice.
“It was almost obvious who should appear in this scene, as we always intended to expand the Sonic universe,” he said. Miller.
For fans who know the origin of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, it’s no surprise that Amy Rose was considered for a bigger role in ‘Sonic 3’. In the game ‘Sonic Adventure 2’, which inspires the film, it is Amy who manages to reach Shadow and convince him to put his anger aside, fulfilling Maria’s final wish (Alyla Browne), unlike Sonic, who has a more painful connection to the character. Therefore, it’s easy to imagine that she could have served a similar role in the film’s plot had she been included in the main story.
Sonic, who was previously a solitary hero, now has friends and allies, and the character’s entry implies a new challenge for him, especially considering her passion for the protagonist, which could impact the dynamics between the two characters.
The presence of the iconic pink hedgehog promises to bring new conflicts and emotional moments, as well as signaling a new direction for the franchise, with more focus on Sonic’s growth and the expansion of his universe, leaving fans eager for what’s to come in the next possible films.
