The remake sequel of The Lion King earned just $122 million at the global box office in 2019, falling short of projections.
Mufasa: The Lion King, a sequel to the 2019 remake of the hit classic, failed to meet expectations at the global box office.
According to Variety, the film grossed $87.2 million domestically and $122 million worldwide, falling short of estimates of $130 million overseas and $180 million overall.
In North America, Mufasa debuted with $36 million, losing the championship to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which earned $62 million.
In international markets, the film received the highest box office receipts in the following countries:
