Mufasa: The Lion King: How did Taka become Scar?

Find out how Mufasa’s brother Taka from “Mufasa: The Lion King” ended up becoming the fearsome villain featured in “The Lion King”

Disney film, “Mufasa: The Lion King” is closer than ever to its release! The title, which is a prelude to the animation and live-action “The Lion King”, released in 1994 and 2019, respectively, follows Simba’s father as a child, showing how he rose to the position of king of the savannah and the relationship which he developed with Taka — a character who in the future, upon acquiring a scar on his face, adopted a new name: Scar (an English word that means scar)!

More than a new way of being recognized, Scar appears to mark the total transformation of the lion’s personality into the villainous version presented in the original plot.

How did Taka become Scar?

Taka’s story is developed with the arrival of Mufasa. That’s because “Taka is the heir to a royal lineage, with a promising future and responsibilities that shape his worldview. However, history begins to change when he rescues Mufasa, a young orphaned lion, in the midst of a devastating flood. The altruistic gesture begins a bond of friendship and fraternity between the two, but it also plants the seeds of conflicting feelings”, as the film’s synopsis says.

Thus, the first signs that the duo’s relationship would be strained are revealed in the book “A Tale of Two Brothers”, by Alex Simmonswhere the origin of the name change and total adherence to another face of Taka is revealed, as, in the pages, the author explains in words that the lion was still a cub when his father, Ahadi, decided to change who would be the heir to the throne by choosing Mufasa for such a role.

As a result, Taka, who already felt distant from Ahadi due to his kingly duties, began to harbor great sorrow within himself as he felt that he had been ignored and invalidated by his own father, in addition to being certain that his Fate had been taken by Simba.

All for revenge?

With the feelings also came questionable actions on Taka’s part. This is because, once, Mufasa and Taka went hunting alone after Ahadi left them to solve problems that arose with the local inhabitants, intensifying what Taka felt, after all, once again he thought he was rejected by his father and placed in the background. .

To change the way he was seen by Ahadi and return to being the priority to take control of the Savannah, Taka decided that he would need to ruin Mufasa’s reputation. As? Making his brother irritate one of the animals whose nature does not relate well to lions.

It turns out that Taka teamed up with the hyenas to take Mufasa to a water source monopolized by the Boma buffalo, causing Mufasa to anger the animal so that a chase could begin. The plan works, but Taka doesn’t come out unscathed, as, when hit by the herd of buffaloes, he ends up getting a scar that crosses one of his eyes.

In the midst of the accident, Ahadi arrives, who ends up calming the situation and taking Taka to receive appropriate treatment so that he can recover from the injury quickly.

However, upon regaining his health, Taka decides to tell him that he was the one who caused the whole situation, also explaining the reason for this: revenge, after all, he did not accept the idea that his father had broken the promise he had made to him a lot. before Simba’s arrival.

With the revelation, Taka is reprimanded by Ahadi, and despite accepting what he is told, he makes a request, that from that moment on, he be called Scar.

Part of this story can be seen on screen for the first time in the trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King”, but it will be possible to see it in full starting next Thursday, the 19th, the date on which the film directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight: Sob a Luz do Luar) premieres in theaters.
