King Charles III and Queen Camilla unveiled their traditional greeting card this Sunday. A much more informal photo than usual, showing the couple strong and united in the face of the difficult year they’ve just had.
After a year marked by the illness of King Charles III and Kate Middleton, the British sovereign and Queen Camilla opened their greeting card this Sunday, December 8. And the chosen cliché, more informally, contrasts with last year.
In December 2023, the traditional Christmas card showed the royal couple wearing the Imperial State Crown and Queen Mary in the very lavish throne room at Buckingham Palace on the day of Charles III’s coronation on May 6, 2023. But this year, the British sovereign wanted back to simplicity.
The portrait of the couple, taken by photographer Millie Pilkington, was taken in the gardens of Buckingham Palace in April 2024 to mark Charles III and Camilla’s nineteenth wedding anniversary. The king wears a gray suit and tie to match his wife to the dress.
Couple united against disease
The photograph was taken shortly after Charles III’s return to official duties, which he suspended in February 2024 following the announcement of cancer. The couple appears side by side and hugging, as if united against the disease.
A simple and touching photo with equally sober wishes. “We wish you a very merry Christmas and a very happy New Year,” the King and Queen addressed the British people.
