The group NeonoeN refused to participate in Eurovision 2025 after being accused of violating the rules of the competition.
Montenegrin group NeonoeN, which should represent the country in Eurovision 2025, refused to participate after the scandal.
The reason was the accusations of violation of the rules of the competition: the group’s competition composition was played in the public space even before the official start of the show, which is prohibited by the regulations.
At first, the group did not consider the possible disqualification, but a few days after the publicity, NeonoeN released an official statement in which they informed national broadcaster RTCG of their voluntary refusal to participate.
NeonoeN also expressed support for Montenegro’s new representative, who will soon be chosen by the broadcaster. According to the regulations, RTCG must select another participant for the competition.
“In the public interest, to end uncertainty and to continue to contribute to music, we are announcing a voluntary withdrawal from participation in Eurovision. According to the regulations, RTCG will choose another representative, and we will be the first to wish him success and support him. We just don’t want to be part of any stories outside of music and we won’t promote our own work that way. Eurovision has never been an end for us. But expanding our musical activities is definitely!” said the band members.
It was previously reported that Montenegro will return to Eurovision in 2025 after a two-year hiatus.
