A true pioneer and lover of raw materials, the founder of the French brand died at the age of 94 on Saturday night.

Jean Din Van “died during the night in Neuilly-sur-Seine”, his wife Marie-Françoise Din Van told AFP on Sunday July 3. “His vision of universal jewelry will remain an eternal source of inspiration for the home,” Dinh Van responded shortly after the group. Because even if he sold his house to Eric Laporte in 1998, the aura of Jean Dean Wan never stopped hovering and influencing his eponymous brand, founded in the 1960s. It must be said that the Breton of Vietnamese origin will take his many years under the Cartier banner, his love for the purest material, first silver, but also solar yellow gold.

And it is this last one that he will bring to the fore, before all else, when he lays the foundation of his house in 1965. A brand that he will create as a manifesto with a strong visual grammar, recognizable at first sight. Between Menot, Maillon, Pi, the Seventies or the Two Pearls he invented for Cardin, giving pride of place to variable geometry. Under his stroke of genius, the circles become almost square and the gem becomes substantial. As he liked to remember. “My jewelry is never fantasy. I wish they were as necessary as a doorknob, with that extra thrill that comes with discovering a brand new object.” Aphorisms that are heard to this day when announcing his disappearance. What remains is his legacy and the visual power of the brand, immortalized in the Parisian landscape.
