Rolling Stones share their best albums of the year 2024 list, which includes artists like BTS’s RM, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and more
Last Monday, 2nd, Rolling Stones magazine published its annual list of “Best Albums of 2024”, according to the team. RMfrom BTS, was the only K-pop artist to appear in the ranking, accompanied by big names in the industry, such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and others.
The leader of BTS, RMappears in 88th place with his most recent solo album, “Right Place, Wrong Person”, in which the singer-songwriter questions the relationship between his “self” in the present and that of the past. The criticism Maura Johnston reflects: “His lyrical tour is made even more expansive by the music established by RM and its collaborators. Right Place, Wrong Person is psychedelic and moving, the intense self-interrogation of its lyrics balanced by music that feels like an invitation to new explorations.”
The pop diva’s album “The Tortured Poets Department” Taylor Swiftcame in 23rd place. Rob Sheffield comments on the singer’s songwriting ambition and assesses: “The songs go for that detailed Folkmore story style, but instead of fictional characters, she’s pouring her heart into her own deeply personal exorcisms.”
Considered rapper of the year, Kendrick Lamarwas not left out of the list. After the release of two hits — “Not Like Us” and “Like That”, a collaboration with Future and Metro Boomin — the singer is ranked 21st, with the recently released “GNX”. Moses Reeves states: “GNX embraces his dual identities: the spiritualist and the block thumper who spits venom at real and perceived detractors. To his credit, he still questions himself.”
With her seventh studio album, “Eternal Sunshine”, released at the beginning of the year, Ariana Grandereaches 8th position in the ranking. Alternating the moments spent in recent years in the songs, Ariana brings feelings of resilience, acceptance and hope for a better future, according to BrittanySpanoswhich also points out: “It’s a divorce album that goes through all the stages of grief, as the singer navigates a new beginning with some of the most honest and inventive music of her career to date.”
The “Queen B”, Beyoncetook second place with “Cowboy Carter” after surprising fans with its release. Spanos characterizes the album as “richly researched and meticulously constructed”, without forgetting to reinforce the purpose of Beyonce in returning to his roots, “it’s more of a love letter to his Southern roots than strictly a honky-tonkin romp.”
Finally, the album that brought a new trend on the internet, causing uproar and fun with striking simplicity, “BRAT”, by Charli XCXwon first place. To Brittany Spanos, the singer “openly questions whether she deserves mainstream success and whether she’s ready to be a mother; but don’t worry, there are still plenty of fast cars and pulsating beats to make it still feel like the rest of her club classics”, further stressing that the production is not just a “hyperpop rollercoaster”, but rather a project that shows the artist’s evolution. “When everyone is asking about the news, the club queen makes it clear that the party hasn’t stopped yet.”
