The representatives of Montenegro at Eurovision 2025 – the group NeonoeN are in danger of losing the opportunity to perform at Eurovision for violating the rules of the competition.
The Montenegrin group NeonoeN, who won the local national selection on November 27 with the song Clickbait, may lose the right to represent the country at Eurovision 2025.
The reason is a violation of the main rule of the competition: performance of the track before the officially permitted date.
According to the organizers, the song Clickbait was performed in 2023 at the Kulture Zabjelo music festival. This is contrary to the requirements of the competition, according to which the public performance of the competition song is prohibited until September 1 of the year before the show.
NeonoeN members themselves consider the accusations unfair. They explained that they performed for a narrow circle of listeners and that the song was presented in its working version.
“Few people even know we exist. Especially at our live shows, where we play original music mainly to a small circle of people in mostly empty rooms. And suddenly the problem was that in front of 20 people we played part of a song while it was being created in one of its working versions… We were really interested, did anyone in the audience remember hearing it?” – said the musicians. They emphasize that they did not use the track for commercial purposes and do not see any violations in their actions.
Eurovision organizers are currently studying the situation. If the violation is confirmed, the group’s victory will be canceled, and Montenegro will be represented in the competition by another artist.
The results of the investigation are expected soon.
It was previously reported that the Netherlands officially announced that they will not boycott Eurovision 2025, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland.
