Hanni explains the reason for NewJeans leaving ADOR

NewJeans announced this Thursday, the 28th, that it would be leaving ADOR and HYBE in an emergency press conference

This Thursday, the 28th, NewJeans held an emergency press conference in South Korea to announce its official departure from HYBE and ADOR, after the companies failed to respond to its demands for better treatment in the workplace.

In his statement, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein highlighted that “HYBE and the current ADOR are not demonstrating any willingness to make reforms or listen to our requests”, in addition to stating that “ADOR does not have the will or ability to protect NewJeans. If we remain here, it will be a waste of time, and our mental anguish will continue. More than anything, there is nothing we can gain in terms of our work, so the five of us feel that there is no reason at all to stay at ADOR.”

Among the points raised by the artists, as reported by the Koreaboo portal, Hanni also exposed the main reason behind the quintet’s decision to officially leave the company, denouncing mistreatment of the members and their team.

“We faced mistreatment, not only against us, but also against our team, countless impediments and contradictions, deliberate miscommunications and manipulation in several areas.

[A ADOR é] A company that no longer has any sincerity in the art of music, be it creative and fixated on appearing to be a company that works well, despite only thinking about making money and not being aware of the negative effect it creates through its inauthentic means.

This is not the type of work we respect or want to be a part of, and continuing to work for a company with no intention of protecting NewJeans would only hurt us. This is why the five of us agreed to leave ADOR and to express ourselves clearly before misleading information is released,” Hanni said at the press conference.

In response to the press conference, ADOR said in a statement (via Soompi):

“We regret that a press conference to announce the termination of the exclusive contract was planned and held before even receiving a response regarding content certification and without sufficient review.

ADOR, as a party to the exclusive contracts, did not breach the contracts, and claiming that trust was unilaterally breached does not constitute grounds for termination.

The exclusive contracts between ADOR and NewJeans members remain valid. Therefore, we hope that they will continue their planned activities together with ADOR as they have done so far.

We requested several meetings with the artists, but they were not held. We hope that even now, we can open our hearts and have honest conversations together.

ADOR will do its best to support NewJeans in its activities and help them grow further as global artists.”
