James Gunn reveals difference between Marvel and DC films

Responding to internet users on social media, James Gunn, producer at DC Studios, comments on the difference between Marvel and DC films

In interaction with fans on social media, james gunnco-CEO of DC Studios, revealed that the planning and approval of DC films only takes place after the script is completed, which is one of the differences found between the producer and Marvel.

When asked about planning a release schedule based on timelines, for example, as done by Marvel for the MCU, James he responded:

“[O DCU] It won’t be exactly like Marvel because nothing is approved before we have a finished script.”

Gunn implies in the statement that the producer has no intention of rushing the development of the production of DC Studios films and series. Thus, we can conclude that “Superman”, which premieres in 2025, “Lanterns”, a new series from DC Studios and “Supergirl : Woman of Tomorrow”, were only approved after the script was finalized.

It is worth remembering that James Gunn is being helped by Peter Safran in the leadership of DC studios, in addition to a team with Tom King (Mr. Miracle), Drew Goddard (Daredevil), Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) and others.

The rivalry

Fans received the statement from james gunn as a dig at the recent problems that Marvel has been facing with the filming of “Captain America: Brave New World” in relation to re-recording locations and changes to the hero’s original plot.

To fuel this rivalry, the actor Frank Grillowho is present in the cast of the new “Superman”, commented in the American press (Via Omelete) on Marvel’s obstacles.

“Well, that’s a great question, considering how the other guys have been having a bit of a hard time. Because they’ve outdone themselves, I guess, so to speak.”

And he concluded by commenting on how the new direction of DC Studios is more cohesive:

I think what James (Gunn) and Peter Safran are doing, who they’re hiring to act in live-action and animation, creates a cohesion, an understanding of the characters. But more importantly, Gunn understands how to utilize this in each story. So there are a lot of people who are like, ‘Why is he here? What is that? Are they trying to put this character here just because?’. They have a different approach. Let’s see how it works, but I feel a difference there”
