With a million-dollar investment for the development of two seasons, “Arcane” won the title of the most expensive animated series in the world
“Arcane” is voted the most expensive animated series in the world! Variety (via Omelete) reported that, to create the universe of the title inspired by the game League of Legends, US$250 million was invested so that the two seasons available in the Netflix catalog achieved the aesthetics seen in the episodes. The brand has never been reached by another animation in the serial format.
The co-founder of Riot Games and the company’s chief product officer, Marc Merrilldefends the production costs, stating: “We are more than comfortable with the investment necessary to deliver a program that is worth our players’ time.”
It is worth remembering that “Arcane” covers the story of rivalry between two sisters: Vi and Jinx. The synopsis for the first season says: “Amid conflict between the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun, two sisters fight on opposite sides of a war between magical technologies and incompatible beliefs.”
The second and final season, however, will be released in two parts. The first will be made available in the Netflix catalog on November 9th, while the final batch of chapters should debut between the 16th and 23rd of the same month on the streaming platform.
Second and final season?
Christian Linkeco-creator of “Arcane”, explained in a recent interview with Comic Book (via Omelete) why the animation will end next season.
The news, which was not very well received by fans of the series, was given shortly after the release of the official trailer for the second part — but the showrunner revealed that the ending of the story had already been planned since the beginning of production:
We always had a story in mind with a beginning and an end. I think it was more about the character arcs. We knew we wanted to do something specific. We didn’t necessarily have a specific number of episodes in mind, but we always knew it would be a finite story. It wasn’t an open concept for a series. It was very organic for us, so there was never this question of, ‘Oh, when is it going to end? We don’t know.’ We knew from the beginning.”
