After seeing how long BTS’ Jin’s album lasted, fans expressed dissatisfaction with a recent K-pop trend. Find out!
After the reveal of the tracklist for his new solo album, Jinby BTS, a heated debate broke out on social media, where fans began to discuss a new trend that has emerged in K-pop, but which has not pleased many: the short length of songs.
This is because, recently, Spotify released a more detailed preview of the album “Happy”, by Jinwhich will be released on November 15th, marking his first comeback after his military discharge. Thus, fans noticed that five of the six songs on the album are less than three minutes long.
Through the Reddit platform, some ARMYs demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the length of the songs, lamenting the fact that short songs have become increasingly common within k-pop. Some internet users still point out that the phenomenon has happened due to the growth of TikTok, which would have popularized short songs. User pintsized_baepsae, for example, writes that “The TikTokification of music is one of the worst things to happen, I HATE IT.”
Angies6pack says, “With these shorter songs, they often feel incomplete and the tendency to not include a bridge or other suitable song makes me really sad. I hope this isn’t the case with the album Jin. I’m really looking forward to it, but these lengths hurt me. I was so mad yesterday about TXT’s new album because even though all the songs were really good, they had the same problem. Short and yes, this made a lot of them feel incomplete. I trust Jinso I’ll wait and see, but I’d be lying if I didn’t acknowledge my aversion to song length, like most here.”
In another comment, alltherach_ highlights that he is sad about the short length of the album, but he did not stop supporting his idol: “I’m not going to lie, the album only having one song longer than 3 minutes kind of hurts my heart (I’m greedy and I want to hear more Jin ok), but I’m still very excited for it!!! Less than 10 days ☺️”
