Franchise will get live-action films

According to North American media, the LEGO franchise will receive three live-action films, with Universal Pictures responsible for production

According to exclusive information from Deadline (via Omelete), the LEGO franchise will receive three live-action films, with Universal Pictures responsible for production. Until then, three directors were chosen to take on the projects, namely: Joe Cornishfrom “Attack on the Building”, patty jenkinsfrom “Wonder Woman” and Jake Kasdan from “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”

Not much information about the films has yet been revealed, such as official synopses, release dates or even whether the three films will form a trilogy or a shared universe.

It is important to remember that, in 2022, the producer Dan Lin appeared on The Ankler’s Hot Seat podcast and revealed that the next film with Universal Pictures will be a complete reinvention of the franchise. “In the next film, we know we need to innovate and explore a new art form that still maintains the essence of LEGO,” he said.

LEGO in Pop Culture

In addition to exploring the DC universe in its films, LEGO has also brought other iconic pop culture characters to its animations. In mid-March, still in Oscar’s mood, the animator Preston Mutangaknown for creating the LEGO universe of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”, recreated an excerpt from Spider-Man’s iconic performance Ryan Gosling singing “I’m Just Ken” during the awards ceremony.

The video is 24 seconds long and portrays a part of the performance in which the actor sings the song’s chorus, appearing in pink and surrounded by men dressed in black like cowboys (Kens), making reference to the live-action “Barbie”. Check it out!

The presentation of Ryan Gosling was the most talked about song of the night, however, “I’m Just Ken” lost the “Best Original Song” category to another song from the “Barbie” soundtrack: “What Was I Made For?”, by Billie Eilish.
