In a recent interview, BTS member Jin revealed what advice he would like to give his 25-year-old self
As the years go by, we end up becoming more mature and aware of the challenges and obligations that life can impose on us, often making us question attitudes taken by our younger selves, both in our personal and professional lives.
In the world of celebrities, for example, it is extremely common to see actors, singers or media personalities being asked in an interview about advice they would give to their younger selves today — a question that was asked to Jin, member of BTS, in his interview for the cover of Vogue Japan magazine.
Celebrating the vehicle’s 25th anniversary, during the conversation, the reporter asked the artist what his best memory is from when he was 25, a time that coincided with BTS’ international rise, and what advice he would give to himself at that time.
In response, the star reflected that, at that time, he used to complain a lot, as he was extremely busy with group commitments, and that perhaps complaining less would be a great option, but recognizes that perhaps this advice would not have made much difference, besides I’m sure that, 10 years from now, I’d also probably give the guy an earful. Jin 31 years old.
“When I was 25, I was so busy with work that I sometimes complained about it. I wish I could tell my younger self that thinking like that isn’t helpful, but honestly, I don’t think it would have made a difference.” “As I got older, my mindset naturally changed. I’m sure that in 10 years, I’ll probably want to give my current self an earful too (laughs).”
BTS’s difficult moments
It is worth remembering that, during the documentary series “BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star”, available on Disney+, the members of BTS revealed that the years between 2016 and 2018 were particularly challenging, due to the group’s growth abroad, in addition to the numerous rumors and harsh criticism directed at the group, which ended up directly affecting their mental health.
“The end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016 were very difficult times for me, psychologically. There were many rumors. But after experiencing this once, I feel hopeless on a day when I should be happy. I can’t go online after a song is released,” reported leader RM.
Suga agrees with his friend’s statement, and also says that “There was a strong negative view of idols at the time. Nowadays we are recognized for our achievements and presence abroad. But it was a very distressing time for us. There was a lot of pointless controversy.”
During the program Suga“Suchwita”, V he also commented on how 2018 was the most difficult time of his life, due to the enormous insecurity related to his performance and abilities that he suffered during this period.
“I started comparing myself to others. ‘Because my pace is slower than the members and my thoughts are a little different… is that why I’m more exhausted?’ I thought about it a lot,” says V. “Whenever I looked at our members while we performed, [eu pensava:] ‘The members are so perfect and enjoy the stage. But why am I the only one like this?’ So, relatively, my exhaustion was severe.”
Finally, the singer also highlights that the peak of his exhaustion happened during the promotions of the hit “Fake Love”, causing him to think about hurting himself on purpose just to be able to rest.
“I was so exhausted that I asked, ‘Since we only have dance practice tomorrow, would it be okay if we took a day off?’ But we were preparing for our comeback and it was an important dance practice, so we couldn’t rest… all this negativity built up inside me. I didn’t think I could do anything in that state, so I kept thinking of ways to rest, but I couldn’t think of anything, so I even thought I should hurt myself [‘Se eu me machucasse, eu iria poder descansar?’]. I thought I should hurt myself, but now I want to change this past me.”, V said, before reassuring Suga and the ARMYs by stating that he is much better nowadays.
