Among the threats that Venom and his human host face in the feature film is the villain Knull, who could have a much bigger role than the one seen on screen in the future.
Who is Knull?
Introduced in volume 16 of “Thor: God of Thunder” (2013), Knull was created by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegmanwith its origin only addressed from the third volume of “Venom Vol. 4” (2010).
Known as the creator of the symbiotes, God of the Void and Lord of the Abyss, Knull, who is portrayed as a humanoid deity with light skin, white hair, eyes with black sclera and red irises, has existed since the beginning of the Marvel Universe, as he it emerged from the abyss between the sixth and seventh cosmos, where everything was still dark and empty.
Being older than the universe itself, Knull lived dormant in the infinite lonely pitch from which he emerged, until he was awakened with the emergence of the Celestials. This is because these cosmic beings brought light and life, the opposite of everything that Knull loved, causing great hatred to begin to be fueled by the villain, who wanted the universe to return to what it was before.
So much so that, in addition to denying the title of King of Darkness that the Celestials would like to grant him, Knull used the broad power he holds over dark energies to create a weapon called the Necrosword (used by Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder), which he used to decapitate one of the Celestials. This became the kickoff for Knull’s decision to exterminate all deities that crossed his path in order to bring the darkness back.
Eventually, some actions caused Knull to end up on an isolated planet, formed from the void, which was later named Klyntar. There, he was able to explore his creation abilities, thus creating the symbiotes, which would help him corrupt the Light — and so it went on for eons, until a problem arose: upon finding good-hearted hosts, the symbiotes ended up realizing Knull’s evil. and they rebelled, imprisoning him inside Klyntar.
From then on, Knull began to look for ways to escape, managing to free himself in the “King in Black” saga, presented in the Marvel comics, which also addresses Knull’s rise in bringing the darkness back and his eventual defeat. .
Could Knull have a role in the MCU?
[CUIDADO SPOILERS DE “VENOM 3 — A ÚLTIMA RODADA ABAIXO”]
“Venom 3 — The Last Round” shows Knull sending symbiotes to Earth after Venom, since, if the alien parasite is captured by Knull’s creatures, the world could be destroyed, as it would be used to free the supervillain from prison which will remain for all eternity.
Thus, in the scene shown after the film’s conclusion, it is possible to see Knull’s face (Andy Serkis) for the first time, in addition to the character’s promise to annihilate everything that exists, now that the host of the alien parasite that gives the film its title is no longer alive — which means that Knull will appear in another Sony Pictures story, the holder of the rights to stories from the Spider-Man universe, created by Marvel.
