5 groups that have already removed members from formation

Check out other groups that, like RIIZE, have also faced the complicated situation of removing a member from the formation

Last week, fans of SM Entertainment’s boy group RIIZE were surprised with the announcement that Seunghana member of the group, was officially removed from the lineup, even though the agency had revealed two days earlier that, after his long hiatus, the star would be returning to the stage.

The situation, which is still unfolding, has become a topic of discussion in different parts of the world. This is because the artist left the group after a group of fans rejected his return due to the controversy in which the idol was involved, where photos of him, recorded in the pre-debut period, where he appears next to an alleged ex-girlfriend and smoking, were leaked.

Over the years, other K-pop groups have also faced the complicated situation of having members removed from the lineup. Remember some!

1. (G)I-DLE — Soojin

In the year 2021, Soojin was one of the South Korean celebrities who became the target of bullying accusations, where former classmates claimed that the artist had inappropriate behavior when she was at school. After initially being removed from activities, the singer was removed from (G)I-DLE in August of the same year. Some time later, the artist was acquitted of all charges by the School Violence Committee, which was investigating the case at the time.

2. LE SSERAFIM — Kim Garam

Just a short time after debuting as a member of LE SSERAFIM, Kim Garamjust 16 years old, was also accused in 2022 of bullying at school. Despite denying the allegations, the artist was removed from the activities and, consequently, formally removed from the group. In October of the same year, the school violence countermeasures committee issued a document stating that Garam was declared innocent.

To this day, the exact reason for leaving Jessica Jung by Girls’ Generation is still uncertain for fans, due to the different versions given by the artist and SM Entertainment at the time. In September 2014, the singer announced her departure from the girl group through Weibo, revealing that she had been “invited to leave” by the agency. Rumors claim that the main reason for his removal would be the launch of his Blanc brand (currently Blanc & Eclare) — a hypothesis also pointed out by the company itself. Jessica. The motivation for the act, however, was never revealed by SM.

4. LOONA — Chuu

In 2022, Chuu She was the first member of LOONA to seek better rights within BlockBerry Creative, the company that managed the group. In November of the same year, the agency issued a statement announcing the artist’s expulsion due to the artist’s alleged “violent language and abuse of power” against employees. Despite the statement, both fans and the members themselves did not accept the removal, in addition to not believing the words said by the company. In the following months, the other 11 members of the girl group also filed lawsuits against the company to finalize their contracts. The 12 contracts were officially terminated on June 16, 2023. Today, the artists continue to state that the group continues to consist of 12 members.

5. NCT — Taeil

In August of this year, NCTzens were taken by surprise with the announcement that Taeil was removed from the group after being the target of police investigations for alleged involvement in a sexual crime, committed by the idol alongside two acquaintances, against an intoxicated woman. Currently, the artist’s contract with SM Entertainment has been officially terminated, and the case has been transferred to the Seoul Central District Public Prosecutor’s Office.
