5 ‘Hunger Games’ characters who also deserved prequels

Check out some characters from the Hunger Games franchise who, like Haymitch, also deserved a prequel

Last Wednesday, 16th, Suzanne Collinsauthor of the “Hunger Games” franchise, has released the synopsis for her newest book “Sunrise on the Reaping”, a work that will take place in the 50th Hunger Games, during the second Quaternary Massacre, and will focus on the plot of Haymitch Abernathy, winner of the edition and future mentor of Katniss and Peeta.

The synopsis says:

“As the day of the 50th annual Hunger Games dawns, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quaternary Massacre, twice as much tribute will be taken from their homes. In District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too much about his chances. He only cares about getting through the day and being with the girl he loves.

When Haymitch’s name is called, he can feel all of his dreams crumble. He’s been ripped from his family and his love, taken to the Capitol with the other three tributes from District 12: a young friend who’s almost a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most arrogant girl in town.

When the Games begin, Haymitch understands that he is doomed to failure. But there’s something in him that wants to fight… and make that fight resonate far beyond the mortal arena.”

In addition to Haymitch, the franchise also features other characters that have already been introduced, but have not had their past explored. With that in mind, RECREIO separated a list of 5 characters from “The Hunger Games” who also deserved a prequel. Check it out!

1. Finnick Odair

Introduced in “Catching Fire”, Finnick Odair, from District 4, was the winner of the 65th edition, and one of the survivors of the 75th Hunger Games, becoming one of Katniss’s greatest allies. The character’s life, however, is little covered in the franchise, something that could be explored in the prequel. What is known is that, after his victory, he was forced by President Snow to prostitute himself, in addition to his future wife, Annie Cresta, and friend, Johanna, winning the 70th and 71st edition.

2. Johanna Mason

During the plot, Johanna Mason, tribute from District 7 and winner of the 71st edition, lives cursing the Capital without fear, since, according to her, the government cannot threaten her since there is no one else she loves — but the reason for their loved ones no longer exist was never explained. Furthermore, the Games in which she won would also serve as a great prequel, mainly to present her strategy of pretending to be weak and scared to deceive competitors, and manage to eliminate the last opponents.

3. President Alma Coin

President of District 13, Coin emerges as a force against the Capital, but ends up showing herself to be a leader with intentions as tyrannical as Snow, however, the franchise does not explain whether pretending to be a good person, to assume power in Panem, was always hers. flat.

4. Cinna

Since the beginning of the saga, fashion designer Cinna was one of those responsible for helping with the revolution, using his art to convey political protests. However, despite his importance in history, there is no clear explanation for when he decided to rebel against the Capital, as well as his life story before meeting Katniss.

5. Katniss’s mother

Growing up in the wealthier part of District 12, Katniss’s unnamed mother was an extremely skilled healer from her youth, always helping those who were hurt by the Peacekeepers. However, her life changed after marrying a poor coal miner and hunter. The story of their relationship could present a different version of the romances already described in the saga.
