Last Wednesday, the 16th, the world faced the early loss of Liam Payneformer member of the boyband One Direction, formed in 2010 during the reality show “The X Factor UK”. The star, just 31 years old, fell from the third floor of the hotel where he was staying in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
As reported by G1, the Argentine police do not believe in the involvement of third parties, but consider the singer’s death as “suspicious”, due to the possible use of alcohol and drugs. The autopsy shows that the fall caused the star to suffer internal bleeding, in addition to 25 traumatic injuries to his limbs, abdomen and skull.
Last night, the 17th, the members of One Direction spoke out for the first time about the loss of their friend, through a joint statement, in addition to messages sent on their personal Instagram accounts. See what everyone said:
One Direction
“We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s death. In time, and when everyone is able, there will be more to say. But for now, let’s take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, whom we loved dearly.
The memories we shared with him will be cherished forever.
For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the fans who loved him as much as we did. We will miss him very much.
We love you Liam.
Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry”
Harry Styles
“I am truly devastated by Liam’s passing.
His greatest joy was making other people happy, and it was an honor to be by his side as he did so.
Liam lived with open arms, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was contagious. He was warm, supportive and incredibly loving. The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend.
My heart breaks for Karen, Geoff, Nicola and Ruth, their son Bear, and all those around the world who knew and loved him, as I do.
-Harry”
Zayn Malik
“Liam, I found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you could hear me, I can’t help but selfishly think that there were so many other conversations for us to have in our lives.
I have never been able to thank you enough for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I was 17 and missing home, you were always there with a positive attitude and a comforting smile, and you let me know that you were my friend and that I was loved.
Even though you were younger than me, you were always more sensitive than me, you were headstrong, opinionated, and didn’t care about telling people when they were wrong. Even though we butted heads over it sometimes, 😂 I always secretly respected you for that.
When it came to music, Liam, you were the most qualified in every way. I didn’t know anything in comparison, I was a novice kid with no experience and you were already a professional.
I was always happy to know, no matter what happened on stage, we could always count on you to know which way to go.
I lost a brother when you left us and I can’t explain what I would give to give you one last hug and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you so much. I will hold all the memories I have with you in my heart forever, there are no words to justify or explain how I feel right now other than completely devastated.
I hope wherever you are now you are safe and at peace 🙏🏽 and you know how loved you were.
I love you brother.”
Louis Tomlinson
“I’m devastated to write this, but yesterday I lost a brother. Liam was someone I looked up to every day, a positive, fun and kind soul.
I met Liam when he was 16, and I was 18. I was immediately struck by his voice, but most importantly, as time passed, I got the chance to see the kind brother I had longed for all my life.
Liam was an incredible songwriter with a great sense of melody, we often talked about going back into the studio together to try and recreate the songwriting chemistry we had built in the band.
And for the record, Liam was, in my opinion, the most vital part of One Direction. His experience since he was young, his perfect tone, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on. Thanks for shaping us, Liam.
A message for you, Liam, if you’re listening:
I feel beyond lucky to have had you in my life, but I’m really struggling with the idea of saying goodbye. I’m so grateful that we’ve become even closer since the band, talking on the phone for hours, reminiscing about all the thousands of incredible memories we’ve had together is a luxury I thought I’d have with you for the rest of my life. I would love to share the stage with you again, but it wasn’t meant to be.
I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me, I will be the uncle he needs in his life and I will tell him stories of how amazing his dad was.
I wish I had the chance to say goodbye and tell you once again how much I loved you.
Payno, my boy, one of my best friends, my brother, I love you, man. Sleep well”.
Niall Horan
“I am absolutely devastated by the death of my incredible friend Liam. It just doesn’t feel real.
Liam had an energy for life and a passion for his work that was contagious. He was the brightest anywhere and always made everyone feel happy and safe.
All the laughs we’ve had over the years, sometimes over the simplest things in life, keep appearing in my mind amidst the sadness. We got to live our wildest dreams together. The connection and friendship we had doesn’t happen often in life.
I feel very lucky to have seen him recently. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that after saying goodbye and hugging him that night, I would be saying goodbye forever. It’s heartbreaking.
My love and condolences go out to Geoff, Karen, Ruth, Nicola and of course your son Bear.
Thanks for everything, Payno.
I love you brother.
Nialler.”
