See what BTS’s J-Hope’s first public statement was like after his military discharge, held this Thursday, 17
This Thursday, the 17th, BTS fans celebrate the military discharge of J-Hopewho became the second member of the group to complete his obligations with the South Korean Armed Forces.
The 30-year-old star, who served as a training instructor with the 36th Infantry Division in Gangwon Province, was welcomed by Jin, who presented his friend with a huge bouquet of flowers, in addition to helping him with his first speech after his release.
Still in front of the military unit, J-Hope addressed the press and fans who were present at the scene, sending a message of thanks to the ARMYs for waiting, and to the citizens of Wonju, the city where the base where he served is located, for always treating the military with care. See his statement:
“I have to say a few words as a form of thanks. Firstly, thank you very much. I was discharged from the army in good health. Thank you really. I want to thank all the reporters who came here. I was able to finish the job well and healthy thanks to the fans.
Actually, what I wanted to say is that while I served for a year and a half as an assistant training instructor, I went on many marches and met many Wonju citizens along the way. They always greeted the soldiers and applauded us, and I wanted to thank the citizens first. It was really very emotional and I don’t know how to express this great emotion for them. And during this one and a half year, what I felt was that to protect the country, many long-serving members of the armed forces are doing a lot with their hard work and dedication for their nation. And for them, if the people of our country could give them our warm attention and love, I think it would be very meaningful.
Thank you very much for waiting for me. Thank you for giving me so much encouragement, support and love. I am being discharged from the army in good health. Thanks!
Greeting!”

After leaving the barracks, J-Hope also followed the tradition started by Jinand held a live broadcast through the Weverse platform to talk directly with fans for the first time in 1 year and 6 months. In the broadcast, the idol thanked ARMYs again for waiting and supporting him throughout his service, in addition to promising that he will prepare “a path of flowers for you to walk”.
“Wow, 1 year and 6 months… that’s a long time… and during that time, to fulfill my duties as a Korean citizen, I was able to live as Jung Hoseok for that 1 year and 6 months, and now I’m back as J -Hope. It looks a little new,” said the artist. “Well, Jung Hoseok is J-Hope and J-Hope is Jung Hoseok, but anyway, thanks to you, I was able to finish my military service healthy and well! From now on, I will create a path of flowers for you to walk on. I keep saying that, but thanks to you, I made it back safely.”
