After all, why has Batman never revealed the Joker’s true identity?

Find out why Batman decided to never reveal the Joker’s true identity, making it one of his biggest secrets

The relationship between Batman and the Joker has been explored in comics, films, series and games for years, making it no secret that the two are arch-enemies. Despite the enmity, Batman still maintains a noble act with the villain: not revealing his true identity.

Countless times, Batman denied to everyone that he knew who the man behind the Clown Prince of Crime was. However, in the comic “Batman: Three Jokers #3”, Bruce Wayne reveals to Alfred Pennyworth, his butler and confidant, that he had known the Joker’s identity for a long time, but had not revealed it for a specific reason.

Reason for secrecy

In the magazine, as reported by the ScreenRant portal, Bruce states that, if he revealed the Joker’s identity, two people linked to him would have their safety at risk: his ex-wife and the son that the villain never met, something that would go completely against your morals.

This is because Wayne believes that, by revealing his identification, the information would cause an uproar in the media and would soon reach Joker, who would decide to go after them, as he has long believed that they are both dead.

Still in the conversation with Alfred, Batman also explains the entire story that, until then, was unknown to fans. According to him, Joker was once married, but he was never a good husband and often committed violence against his wife.

The woman, seeking to escape the abuse, went to court and faked her death and that of her unborn child, with both being placed in the witness protection program — a fact that was not known to the villain or the press.

Despite revealing this enemy’s past, Bruce does not discuss Joker’s true identity with Alfred, or with any other member of the Bat-family, making this one of Batman’s best kept secrets.
