Discover the Pixar animation that received images and a release date, but never saw the light of day
Since its founding, Pixar has become recognized for releasing animations that win over the public and specialized critics, marking the lives of thousands of people around the world, mainly due to its excellence in the production of each story.
For their films to reach the desired level of perfection, new stories often take years to be ready — as was the case with “Wall-E” (2008) which, from the emergence of its idea, until the day of release , exactly 14 years have passed.
However, along the way, it is also common for some ideas to end up being discarded to give priority to more elaborate stories, as happened with the animation “Newt”, which was announced, received a release date and concept art, but never saw the light of day.
“Newt”, the discarded animation
In “Newt”, the public would follow the story of the last pair existing in the world of the blue-footed salamander species, with the plot seeking ways to save the species from extinction, however, dealing with a problem: Newt, the male , and Brooke, the female, couldn’t stand each other.
With direction from Gary Rydstromin 2008, Pixar announced that the animation would be released in 2011. However, after some problems, the project was rescheduled to be released in 2012 — but, eventually, it ended up being replaced by “Brave”, a film with the studio’s first princess.
To try to save the plot, Pixar announced that Pete Docterresponsible for hits such as “Monstros SA” and “UP: Altas Aventuras”, would be the new director of “Newt”. With the new leadership, work was restarted, and the filmmaker suggested a new story about emotions in a person’s head — an idea that was prioritized, and gave rise to “Inside Out”.
Since then, “Newt” has merely been removed from the release schedule, and quietly shelved. According to the website Collider, in addition to the internal problems, another reason why the animation was never finished would be its similarity to “Rio” (2011), a feature from Blue Sky Studios that presents the last blue macaws, fighting to preserve their species.
