Chantal Ackerman Travel. a tribute to Jeu de Paume
Chantal Ackerman. Travel. A beautiful title for the exhibition that Jeu de Paume is dedicating to the Belgian filmmaker and writer (born in Brussels in 1950 and died in Paris in 2015). He is an icon, even an icon, to artists and film generations who revere his film Jeanne Dilman, 23 quai du commerce, 1080 Brussels (1975), played by Delphine Seyrig, and was awarded the title of “Best Film of All Time” in 2022 by the British magazine. Sight and sound. The exhibition route is a dialogue between his films, installations and biofilmography, which contains unpublished archives that have never been presented to the public. Installation: From the East, on the edge of fiction (1995) with 25 monitors, tracks his journey in sound and images, from East Germany to Moscow in a filmed trail across Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine. It’s time to rediscover this pioneer of modern cinema.
