The winner will receive £50,000, a prize called the Iris. Each shortlisted author receives £2,500.
The shortlist for the 2024 Man Booker Prize has been announced, including six books out of 156 applicants. The list is published on the award website.
On the list: Anne Michaels’ Captive, Rachel Kushner’s Creation Lake, Samantha Garvey’s Orbital, Charlotte Wood’s Stone Yard Service, Yael van der Wouden’s The Vault and Percival Everett’s James.
For the first time in the prize’s 55-year history, the majority of finalists are women: five female authors and one male author. The list includes writers from five countries, including Dutch and Australian authors, as well as representatives of the UK, Canada and the USA.
The award ceremony will take place on November 12 in London. The winner will receive £50,000 and each finalist will receive £2,500.
It was previously reported that The New York Times presented a ranking of the best books written and published in the 21st century.
