More than 100 complaints about alleged violations of labor laws by HYBE and ADOR against NewJeans have reportedly been filed. Find out more!
After the live show held by NewJeans members last week, where Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein asked for better treatment, in addition to the return of Min Hee Jinto the position of CEO of ADOR, the company responsible for managing the group, fans of the group would have sent a formal complaint to the Ministry of Employment and Labor in Seoul, according to information released by Women’s News (via Koreaboo).
According to the South Korean portal, a representative of the ministry confirmed that the case would be investigated properly, and a complaint of violation of labor laws was filed, accusing HYBE and ADOR of not treating NewJeans properly.
In the article, the civic group Workplace Gapjil 119 further explains that the accusation made by Hanniduring the live, where she says that a manager instructed members of another group to ignore her, could be considered harassment in the workplace, according to labor laws.
“NewJeans members may also be considered workers under the Labor Standards Act, as they enter into an exclusive contract with the agency, provide labor under the direction and supervision of the agency, and receive compensation for their work,” the civic group explained.
Women’s News also claims that after the live broadcast, many fans decided to file complaints of workplace harassment with the Ministry of Employment and Labor. According to the office’s own statement, as of September 13, more than 100 complaints related to the girl group and ADOR had already been filed.
Finally, a ministry representative stated that “The labor inspector in charge said that once a complaint is received, the investigation will be conducted in accordance with procedures.”
