What is your birthday tradition? Some people have a habit of throwing parties, others like to plan a special dinner, go on trips or spend time with their own company. Regardless of how it is done, the date is usually celebrated in some way — and it would be no different with RMfrom BTS, as the idol acquired a generous custom carried out on every September 16th.
RM’s generous birthday tradition
In addition to sharing the 30th anniversary celebrations through social media posts, a text thanking ARMY and attending an event organized by fans, RM shared that last Friday, the 16th, he also made a donation of ₩100 million KRW (approximately R$417,042.00) to the “Everyone’s Veterans Dream” fund in support of the “Uniformed Service Appreciation Campaign”, organized by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, which will help support and honor veterans.
“Lately, I have personally felt the dedication of many people to our country in the field. I hope that this small contribution can be of use to all the heroes who are dedicating themselves to the country even at this very moment, as well as to those who have worked hard for peace. I am also sincerely grateful to the ARMY fans who always shower me with overflowing love and congratulations,” RM said in the statement (via Koreabo) about the donation.
The act of supporting important causes with 100 million won on his birthday is a tradition for years for the idol, as last year and in 2022, he also helped the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation in order to support the restoration and preservation of Korean artifacts located in major museums and art galleries around the world.
In 2021, he supported Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital in Daegu, his hometown in South Korea, helping to pay for cancer treatment for children whose families cannot afford to continue medical care, and in 2019, he donated the same amount to Seoul Samsung School, an institution that helps students with hearing impairments.
It is worth remembering that, despite this being a practice that has become common on the idol’s birthday, it is not only on this occasion that his solidarity is seen, as he serves as an honorary ambassador for the Ministry of Defense’s KIA Recovery and Identification Agency and ambassador for the Korean Ministry of National Defense, working to publicize excavation projects to identify soldiers killed in the Korean War since 2023, in addition to having participated in campaigns with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), such as “LOVE MYSELF”, in 2021.
