Madame Figaro. – Why did I agree to be a member of the show’s jury? Pop stars.
Eddie de Pretto. – It’s a bit of a Proustian madeleine. I was 12 when this show started in the 2000’s and I never missed an episode. It is a cult program for my generation. we loved seeing the bands reveal themselves live. Pop stars highlighted R’n’B, which I’m so passionate about that it’s at the center of my latest album. I also wanted to be involved in teaching, to help young people have an independent view of an artistic project. I started my own record label, Otterped Records, and I have more strings to my bow to promote those just starting out.

Pop is still a vector of social change.
Far from being a simple aesthetic movement, pop provokes conversations about important issues. It crosses the boundaries of language and social environment and helps break down the barriers between art and popular culture. When I came out with my first album Treatment (2018), I addressed topics that had been censored, such as toxic masculinity and homosexuality. Jacques Brel considered pop singers to be the scouring paper of society. He was right, because pop music reflects the times.

My character?
I am a modest observer. I overcame my shyness through my writing. It allowed me to share through my texts what I cannot say in life. The main theme of my songs is uniqueness. As a child I did not understand the codes and today I have a microphone that gives me access to a large audience. My weakness became my greatest strength.

Is it bad to talk about myself in promos?
On the contrary, since 2016, journalists’ questions have had a therapeutic role for me. They push me to accept otherness and sharpen my perspective on the project, to see its flaws.

I’m passionate about R’n’B, so much so that it’s at the center of my latest album

Seduction Mode or Warrior Mode?
Warrior mode. When I decide to share a belief, I don’t lose sight of my purpose. I can be very narrow-minded and implement formidable strategies. Seduction mode works when I’m on stage. There I do everything to amaze the audience: I write every detail of the performance, visual shocks and choreography.

Misunderstanding about me?
People think I’m Belgian because I was noticed by the public at the same time as artists from the burgeoning Brussels scene like Romeo Elvis and Angel.

A question that I am afraid of.
I hate telling my age. I don’t like being counted, sticking to a standard. I am the age I feel, meaning I fluctuate between several ages: sometimes 15 or 20, sometimes 36 or 40. It is more interesting to ask ourselves what is the energy that emanates from man; childlike, vibrant, mature…

Last time I was proud of myself?
When I announced my tour dates, the most important of my career. Twenty Zenith, Bercy and Arenas across France. Filling these types of venues was a childhood dream.
