European Heritage Days 2024: Fashion events not to be missed

Heritage Days will take place on September 21 and 22, which each year give the public the opportunity to discover places that are normally closed to them. Focus on the places to discover the most exclusive secrets of Parisian fashion.

It has been a leading back-to-school event since 1984. European Heritage Days allow the public to visit France’s most iconic places in all fields, including fashion, over the weekend. So the Paris headquarters of Kering and the house of Balenciaga, integrated into the former Laennec Hospital at 40 rue de Sèvres in Paris, opens its doors on September 21st and 22nd. Built between 1634 and 1757, we will find a rich artistic program at the base of this noble building. Head to the chapel to first discover The Praise of the Universe, a unique selection of works by six contemporary artists from the Pinault Collection. Then it’s time for Balenciaga’s temporary exhibition entitled “The Subtleties of Dialogue”. a face-to-face encounter between the works of Cristobal Balensaga and Demna, a discourse between artworks in a scenography that isolates the details of the pieces. Collar, sleeve, waist or silhouette… With six themes, the visitor will be able to (re)discover the aesthetic and historical codes of the house.

Heritage dialogue

In addition to the current exhibition on flowers, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Paris offers a tour of its creation and organizes a “Walk to discover the heritage of fashion”, a joint event with the Palais Galliera and the Dior Gallery. Under the guidance of a speaker, participants will be able to discover three complementary approaches to the preservation and transmission of Parisian fashion heritage, three histories of collections and exclusive locations, three unique ways of displaying fashion. Visits are free with a reservation (subject to availability) at the Yves Saint Laurent Museum or Palais Galliera locations.

At the heart of the workshops

Le 19M, Chanel’s couture production, this year invites visitors to discover the Lesage workshops housed in an exclusive building designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti. The proposed route will allow you to discover the backstage of the creation of Lesage; exclusive visits to four workshops in painting, quilting, embroidery and textile creation, as well as a unique visit to Lesage Interiors, an organization that creates and develops exclusive embroidery for decorative projects. As a highlight, the centenary exhibition ‘Rent, 100 Years of Fashion and Decoration’, celebrating the excellence of the house of embroidery and textiles, runs until 5 January 2025. Hence, several quality offerings are available for fashionistas and newbies alike.
