Find out which SEVENTEEN members will enlist in the South Korean army in the coming years
During the early hours of this Thursday, 12th, Pledis Entertainment, the agency that manages SEVENTEEN’s career, announced through Weverse that Jeonghana member of the Vocal Unit, will enlist this month in mandatory military service in South Korea.
Born in 1995, the idol is already approaching the age limit (30 years old) to fulfill his obligations and, according to Pledis, he is scheduled to go on hiatus from his activities with the boy group on September 26.
The news left Carats (the group’s fandom) in a melancholic mood, as Jeonhan is the first of the 13 members who will spend almost two years away from his artistic career. However, the other Korean members of SEVENTEEN are also expected to enlist soon, with the ’96 line’ being next in line.
Which Seventeen members should be next?
Hoshi, Woonwo and Woozithe three being, respectively, from different Units, can cause a slight shortage in the group’s formation if they enlist together. Now Mingyu, DK, Vernon,Seungkwan and Dinoborn between 1997 and 1999, are not required to serve immediately, due to the fact that they are the youngest members of SEVENTEEN.
Exempt members?
The only members who are exempt from mandatory military service in South Korea are: June, Minghao (The 8), S.coups and Joshua. The first two because they are Chinese, which leaves them free from any ties to the nation. Joshuaalthough he has Korean ancestry, he was also not born in the country. Just like Jeonghanthe idol is from 1995, but is from California, in the United States.
In the case of S.coupsthe situation is a little more delicate. Even though he assumes the leadership of the group, being the oldest among the 13 members, a knee injury suffered in 2023 caused him to be exempted from military enlistment. In the Conscription System, the injury reached grade 5, which exempts him from serving in times of peace. At the time, the idol did not participate in any activities to promote SEVENTEEN, going on a temporary hiatus before the release of the mini-album “Seventeenth Heaven”.
