Did he have a brother? Learn the story of the scrapped Finding Nemo sequel

The classic “Finding Nemo” almost had a sequel that would have taken a completely different direction from the one we know; find out more!

In a time when the film industry is dominated by reboots and sequels, the influence of major studios in the realization of these projects is undeniable. Pixar, for example, has stood out in this scenario, releasing major hits such as the four “Toy Story” films, the second “The Incredibles” film and the recent “Inside Out 2.”

However, there is one classic animation that almost got a sequel that would have taken a completely different direction from the one we know. Before the release of “Finding Dory” in 2016, Pixar had other plans for the second film about the little fish Nemo. With the script written by Laurie Craigthe story would focus on the relationship between the protagonist and his lost brother, Remy, as well as having them explore the ocean in search of Marlin after he is captured.

The film would also focus on emotional issues, as it would feature the boys’ father expressing his concern over the fact that Nemo, until then, was an only child, fearing that he might become more overprotective after the events of the first film.

The initial idea for this sequel came with the creation of Circle 7 Animation, a division established by Michael Eisnerformer CEO of Pixar, to develop possible sequels to the studio’s animated films. Circle 7 began working on concepts for “Toy Story 3”, “Monsters, Inc. 2” and “Finding Nemo 2”, however, after Disney acquired Pixar in 2006, the division was shut down.

Despite this, the original concept for “Finding Nemo 2” promised a story that would certainly captivate fans, especially considering that the first film won Pixar the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2004.

Now, years after the production was canceled, the script for “Finding Nemo 2” has been released online and is available to read for free. Additionally, both “Finding Nemo” and “Finding Dory” can be watched on Disney+.
