Elle McPherson, a leading model of the 1990s and nicknamed The Body, has revealed for the first time in a magazine column that she has breast cancer. Women’s Weekly this Monday, Sept. 2, during an interview about his latest book of the same name, titled He.
The 60-year-old Australian model, in particular, talked about how to manage her disease after seven years of silence and is still in remission. “It was shocking, unexpected, confusing, frightening in many ways,” he said.
Although her doctors at the time recommended the traditional breast cancer treatment of mastectomy and chemotherapy, Elle McPherson said she chose a more “holistic” approach to treating her cancer without chemotherapy or pharmaceuticals. “I understood that there is nothing definite, there is no guarantee. There was no right way, right way for me,” he explains in the magazine’s columns.
“People thought I was crazy.”
For the 60-year-old model, saying no to traditional medical practices was the “hardest thing” she’s ever done. “People thought I was crazy. But I knew I had to make a choice that really resonated with me. For me, it meant facing the emotional and physical factors associated with breast cancer… And that took courage,” recalls the model, whose family was “extremely supportive” at the time.
Today, the sixty-year-old girl in excellent shape does not regret her choice. “It was a great exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body.”
