Among the important events of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the testimony of the mother of three children, recently amputee Lucy Retail, left an impression.
The opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Paris reserved for itself the section of artistic performances, but not only that. After the traditional parade of sports delegations and between various artistic scenes, the designers of the ceremony wanted to broadcast a collection of testimonies of people with disabilities.
“Stronger Body”
Among the latter, a 42-year-old young woman, Lucy Reitel, told about the changes she had to face after having four limbs amputated as a result of malaria. “We are no different from anyone else. Who can say, “When I look in the mirror, I always like what I see?” asked the mother of three first. And proudly assure. “I have a body that survived. Indeed, it no longer resembles the codes of femininity, but for me it is the strongest. She is stronger and more beautiful than she has ever been.
Despite her disability, Lucy Retail believes she has no limits, preferring to find alternatives to all everyday situations, such as cuddling her loved ones. “My children, I kiss them. Because we have many sensors around our mouth as well as on our hands. We do it differently,” he said. “Can’t you dance? Don’t you have legs? Dance on your knees. And I think we can do that endlessly with all disabilities. In fact, we are unlimited in what we can do,” he concluded.
