Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki gets documentary that will explore his experiences to understand themes present in his films
Released by Deadline this Tuesday, 27th, “Miyazaki, Spirit Of Nature”, is the documentary by Leo Favier which promises to explore the experiences of the creator of “Spirited Away”, Hayao Miyazakito understand topics present in his films, more precisely, the filmmaker’s connection with nature and environmental themes, which appear in classic titles from the animation studio he co-founded, Studio Ghibli, such as “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Princess Mononoke”.
The film’s synopsis reads as follows: “Through iconic characters such as Totoro and Princess Mononoke, Miyazaki’s films reflect his deep concerns about the world, often autobiographical and echoing the upheavals of the 20th century. Miyazaki, Spirit of Nature, enriched with exceptional film excerpts and insights from voices including his son and director Goro Miyazaki, his producer Toshio Suzuki, and philosopher Timothy Morton, reveals Miyazaki’s profound ecological work that questions our relationship to the natural world and living creatures.”
The documentary is scheduled to premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, which will be held from August 28 to September 7, 2024, at the Venice Lido in Italy. The commercial release date for “Miyazaki, Spirit of Nature” remains unknown.
