For history to take shape, Rhys Frake-Waterfielddirector of the “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” franchise, was chosen to lead the project, which also features Todd Masters to develop, through practical effects, the look of the wooden doll that becomes a real boy.
Plot details have not yet been revealed. However, in an interview with Bloody Disgusting, the filmmaker behind the production said that this is his best film to date because it has a higher budget than his previous ones.
We’re going to embrace practical effects at every opportunity, from the puppet to the logo. Having a significantly larger budget than my last film allowed me to make this the definitive Pinocchio horror film, and my best to date,” Waterfield revealed.
“Pinocchio: Unstrung” will be part of the “Twisted Childhood Universe” franchise, which began with “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” (2023) and already has two more titles confirmed for release: “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare”, which is due to be released on October 31, 2024, and “Bambi: The Reckoning”, which is scheduled to premiere in 2025.
More about Pinocchio
It is worth remembering that Pinocchio was created in 1883, by the Italian writer Carlo Collodi and included in the title “The Adventures of Pinocchio”. Since then, the plot that introduces the character has received several printed and cinematic versions, one of the most famous being the animation that bears the character’s name released by Disney in theaters in 1940.
Furthermore, the character entered the public domain in 1960, further facilitating the arrival of new adaptations, since from then on, anyone can reproduce the story or the image of Geppetto’s son since it is no longer necessary to buy the rights to the work to do so.
