During the night of last Wednesday, 21st, Taylor Swift has opened up about the threat of terrorist attacks at her “The Eras Tour” show in Vienna. On Instagram, the artist thanked the European audience, but also said that she found it “devastating” not to be able to perform in the Austrian capital due to the possible attacks; read the translation of the post below:
We have officially wrapped up the European leg of The Eras Tour. With it came the most passionate audiences I have ever played for, new show traditions and a whole new era. It was a more hectic pace than ever before and I am so proud of my crew and fellow artists for being able to physically pull off that show and build our massive stage, tear it down and make magic with so few days of rest and travel. They are the most amazing people I know and I am so lucky that they have dedicated their time, energy and expertise to The Eras Tour. Taking the stage in London was an emotional rollercoaster. Having our shows in Vienna cancelled was devastating. The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear and tremendous guilt because so many people had planned to attend these shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because, thanks to them, we were mourning the show, not lives. I was heartened by the love and unity I saw from the fans who came together. I have decided that all my energy should be directed towards helping protect the nearly half a million people who have come to see my shows in London. My team and I have worked closely with stadium staff and the UK authorities every day to achieve this goal, and I want to thank them for everything they have done for us. Let me be very clear: I will not speak publicly about anything if I feel it could provoke those who would harm the fans who come to my shows.
In cases like this, ‘silence’ is really about showing restraint and waiting to speak up at the right moment. My priority was to finish our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say that we did. And then London felt like a beautiful dream sequence. All five crowds at Wembley Stadium were filled with passion, joy and exuberance. The energy in that stadium was like the biggest bear hug of 92,000 people every night, and it brought me back to a place of carefree calm up there.
At the end of the post, Taylor still thanked Ed Sheeran, Florence Welch and Jack Antonoffwho made surprise appearances during “The Eras Tour”.
The European leg of the tour was the penultimate, with the closing scheduled for the cities of Toronto and Vancouver, Canada, with the last show scheduled for December 8. In addition, the performance was recorded for theatrical release and is currently available on Disney+.
