4 K-pop music videos that were banned from South Korean TV in 2024

Check out four K-pop music videos released in 2024 that were banned from being shown on South Korean television

Nowadays, music videos are an important part of any musical release — especially in K-pop. Therefore, with each comeback, groups seek to innovate in their MVs, bringing different concepts that can best illustrate the chosen work song.

However, due to the strict rules of South Korean television, it is common for many videos to end up being banned from being shown on broadcasters for different reasons.

One example is the music video for “Kill This Love” by BLACKPINK, released in 2019, which ended up being prevented from being broadcast on the KBS channel because, as reported by the South China Morning Post, at a certain point, it is possible to see the member Rosé driving a car without wearing a seatbelt, going against the country’s Traffic Laws.

In 2024, some major releases of the year were also banned from being shown on KBS — and RECREIO will introduce you to four of them. Check it out!

1. Wish You Hell — Wendy (Red Velvet)

In March, Wendya member of Red Velvet, made his first solo comeback with “Wish You Hell”. According to Koreaboo, KBS banned the music video for the track for having “trademark exposure”, that is, for explicitly showing a brand, something that goes against the broadcaster’s rules that do not approve the promotion of commercial brands in entertainment content.

2. Easy — THE END

Released in February, the video for “Easy”, by LE SSERAFIM, had its broadcast banned by the broadcaster, as one of the scenes was considered a “risk to public safety”, as it shows a potentially dangerous act, when a hair dryer is thrown into the bathtub in which the member is. Chaewon.

3. Wife — (G)I-DLE

(G)I-DLE promoted their second full-album in January, releasing as a pre-release the track “Wife”, which was considered by KBS as too “provocative”, and with “many metaphorical lyrics with sexual nuances”, and was banned from being shown on the channel.

4. LOST! — RM (BTS)

Even though I was in the army, in May of this year, RMleader of BTS, made his solo comeback with the album “Right Place, Wrong Person”, which had seven of its eleven tracks banned from being broadcast on KBS due to its “mature themes” and “inappropriate language”, according to information from Sportskeeda. The songs banned by the broadcaster are: “Around the World in a Day” (ft. Moses Sunny), “LOST!”, “Groin”, “Domodachi” (feat. Little Simz), “out of love”, “Nuts” and “Right People, Wrong Place”.
