According to South Korean media, HYBE responded to some threats made against NewJeans during the morning of Tuesday, 20
According to the South Korean portal SportsWorld, HYBE responded to some threats against NewJeans this Tuesday, 20th. During the morning, through the DC Inside platform, an internet user published explicit and vulgar comments against the members of the girl group, which generated some concern among fans.
HYBE announced that it will take legal action against the case, in addition to searching for the suspect:
We are reviewing the situation and regularly evaluating possible legal action and charges,” the agency said.
Even if posts like this are made as a “joke,” they can be treated as threats. The penalty for such threats can be up to 10 years in prison, or a fine of up to ₩10 million Won (approximately US$7,510), depending on the severity.
Furthermore, this is not the first time that NewJeans has received threats on social media. Last June, the members were also targeted by anonymous malicious posts due to the conflict between HYBE and the record label ADOR, even causing the company to open a reporting channel ([email protected]) for fans to notify them if they come across such posts or comments.
