After all, what was the first Barbie movie in the world?

The most recent title starring Mattel’s most popular doll is “Barbie”, a film by Greta Gerwig (Little Women) released in 2022, which features Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) as the Stereotypical Barbie, who leaves Barbieland for being a less than perfect looking doll, and travels to the human world in order to find a new meaning for her existence.

Although this is the newest title for the toy created by the couple Ruth and Elliot Handler in the late 1950s, and the first live-action version of the doll, do you know which is the oldest Barbie movie?

The first Barbie movie

The first production with Barbie in the lead role was an American animated special entitled “Barbie – The Rock Star”, as reported by the CNN Brasil portal. The production, which is 50 minutes long, premiered on US TV in 1987.

Inspired by the “Barbie and the Rockers” line, the animation follows the blonde doll as a rock star who, in the plot, concludes a successful world tour with a show in space, whose objective was to promote world peace.

“Barbie – The Rock Star” gained a sequel entitled “Barbie and the Sensations: Returning to Rockin’ Land” in 1998, to follow the character’s journey back to Earth, which is full of twists and turns, since during the return, she ends up traveling through time.
