Check out the sequels to classic Disney animations that are already in production by the studio and are expected to premiere in the coming years.
Last weekend, the D23 Expo took place in Anaheim, California, United States, the long-awaited Disney convention responsible for presenting the biggest news from the studio and its brands, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.
Among the announcements made during the event, in addition to presenting new previews for some of the most anticipated releases of the year, such as “Moana 2”, and the live-actions “Snow White” and “Mufasa: The Lion King”, sequels to some of the most beloved films by viewers were also confirmed, which are currently being prepared — and RECREIO will present them all to you now. 1. Frozen 3
The third film about the story of Anna and Elsa, sisters who became queens of Arendelle, was confirmed in February 2024. Now, at D23, the production has received its long-awaited release date: 2027. For now, there is not much information released. What is known is that Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groffand Josh Gad will be back in the cast.
2. Incredibles 3
In one of the biggest surprises of the weekend, Pixar confirmed during D23 that it is producing the third film in the “The Incredibles” franchise, which still has no release date, synopsis, or cast announced. So far, the only confirmation is that Brad Birddirector responsible for the first two features, will be back to direct the animation.
3. Zootopia 2
Also in February of this year, Disney confirmed the production of the second film in “Zootopia”, an animation that presents anthropomorphic animals living in a polarized metropolis, divided between “prey” and “predators”.
Set to premiere in theaters on November 26, 2025, the film will feature the arrival of Ke Huy Quan in the role of Gary, a snake who will join the main characters.
4. Toy Story 5
The fifth film in the “Toy Story” franchise was confirmed by Disney and Pixar in February of this year, during a conference call about Disney’s first-quarter 2024 earnings. Now, the production has had its first preview released, along with the expected release date of the work: summer 2026, exclusively in theaters.
It is worth remembering that the summer indicated in the confirmation refers to the northern hemisphere. There, the season occurs between June 20 and 21 and the end of September.
