Discover 5 stories starring princesses that could have been created by the Disney seal
Disney’s first animated feature film was responsible for introducing the studio’s first official princess: Snow White, who appeared in ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ in 1937, as an adaptation of the brothers’ tale Grimm to the big screen.
Over the studio’s 100-plus years, other animated series have featured 12 more princesses: Jasmine, Ariel, Aurora, Cinderella, Raya, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Moana, Rapunzel, Merida and Belle, who in addition to their own films, have also become stars of the Disney Princess media franchise and can be seen in manga, games, TV shows, events, attractions and themed products.
Even though it is one of the most profitable franchises in the world, it could have more characters and more stories, since several projects focused on the studio’s princesses ended up being canceled, among them sequels of already known narratives and completely new plots, as reported by the ScreenRant portal; discover 5 of them below!
1. Snow White Returns
A sequel and a prequel were planned for the Snow White story, but neither came to fruition.
The first, discussed shortly after the original plot premiered, would be called “Snow White Returns” and would follow the princess returning to the forest for an annual visit to the dwarves. The last, conceived in the 2000s, would show the past of the seven dwarves and the Evil Queen.
2. Red Rose
In addition to stories set before and after ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’, there was also the idea of a spin-off. This would introduce a new princess: Rose Red, who is Snow White’s sister.
The film would adapt the title “Snow White and Rose Red”, from Brothers Grimmbut as Rosa Vermelha is not as well known as her sister, the narrative ended up being discarded.
3. Mulan 3
In 1998, Disney brought ‘Mulan’, a story based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, which features the warrior princess who enlisted, disguised as a man, in the Chinese army to save the life of her father, who could not fight due to age and poor health.
The plot gained a sequel in 2004 and was supposed to gain a third plot, featuring Mulan helping another young woman rescue her father from Japan, but this was canceled even before the premiere of “Mulan 2: The Legend Continues”. The reason was not revealed.
4. Disney Princess Enchanted Tales
The series of short films for video “Disney Princess Enchanted Tales” was supposed to have many other titles, but in the end, it received only one: “Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams” or “Disney Princesses: Follow Your Dreams”, in Portuguese, a film released in 2007 that brings together two new stories of Jasmine and Aurora.
Originally, the idea was to release a short for each Disney princess, but the plan was scrapped when John Lasseter became the studio’s creative director, as he preferred to pursue other projects for the label.
5. Princess Academy
Princess Academy was designed to become an animated short film that would feature, in addition to all the official Disney princesses, all the female Disney characters, gathered in a boarding school.
