Carolyn Lawrence, voice actress present in ‘The Mission of Sandy Cheeks’, revealed feelings about the character in an exclusive interview with RECREIO
Sandy Cheeks was introduced 25 years ago in “SpongeBob SquarePants”, a production created in 1999, and even after so many years, the little squirrel remains in the hearts of fans of the animation and debuts as the protagonist in the feature film “Sandy Cheeks’ Mission”, from Netflix.
As you remember Carolyn Lawrencevoice actress for Sandy Bochechas for more than two and a half decades, in an exclusive interview with RECREIO, “Sandy Bochechas is a squirrel who lives in the ocean” who “is also a scientist, athletic, beautiful and a loyal friend”, making her a true inspiration for young girls and boys and worthy of starring in her own production.
From this thought, “The Mission of Sandy Cheeks” emerges, a film that will show Sandy as a true heroine, as she will embark on an adventure in Texas to save the place where she lives after Bikini Bottom is removed from the ocean.
It is worth remembering that, in previous films inspired by the work created by Steve Hillenburgall of which featured SpongeBob as the main character, namely: “The SpongeBob Movie”, “The Sponge Out of Water” and “The SpongeBob Movie”. With that in mind, the voice actress explained why this is the right time for a film in which Sandy Cheeks appears as the main character:
I’m glad to see her having her moment after 25 years. I have two daughters, and Sandy is a phenomenal animated character for girls and women because she’s outside the box. She’s highly capable, she works out, she’s incredibly smart. She does a lot of things that more traditional female animated characters don’t do. You can see that there’s a huge difference between Sandy, Betty Boop, and princess movies, which I love, by the way. Those were different times. It’s really cool to see her in this position. It took a while, but she got there.”
Still, in the film, the squirrel scientist won’t save the day alone, as she’ll count on her incomparable friend SpongeBob to complete the mission. “I think their complicity is so great that they’ll always be there for each other. Even if there’s a disagreement or something goes wrong, they always manage to resolve it. It’s a very beautiful friendship,” she noted. Lawrence.
More than that, the character brings happiness to Lawrence by the way in which it can be understood by those who follow it.
I’m so happy that girls all over the world can see a character as capable as Sandy, who loves her family and friends, and is also strong and kind at the same time. I also love that boys can see her as a capable superhero in the form of a squirrel. After all, I also want men and boys to see women in this place of excellence.”
25 years of SpongeBob and Sandy Cheeks
“Sandy Cheeks’ Mission” premieres on Netflix next Friday, the 2nd, and, in a way, celebrates the 25-year legacy of “SpongeBob SquarePants”, taking Lawrence to reflect on the amount of time involved in the underwater world in which the characters live.
It’s amazing that in 25 years none of us have aged! It amazes me that while it sounds like a long time, it’s all gone by so quickly. It’s like raising children. The journey is long, but it goes by in the blink of an eye. It seems crazy that 25 years have already passed.”
For many years on paper, Lawrence Finally, she said what she likes most about working as Sandy’s voice actress:
I have a lot of fun playing someone who can do anything, just like in the cartoon. After all, real life is very limited by society. I think I spent a lot of my life as a woman who hides herself to please others. Sandy doesn’t do that. She will never do that. No one messes with her. And I think that dubbing for so many years gave me the freedom to assert myself and strengthen my true self. That was a huge gift that the character gave me.”
