Max Mara puts women in the spotlight for the Max Mara Art Prize for Women

Nautical, Afrofuturism and superpower… These are the themes covered by visual artist and sculptor Dominique White, winner of the ninth Max Mara Art Prize for Women. The award was created in 2005 by the Italian luxury house Max Mara in partnership with London’s Whitechapel Gallery and Collezione Maramotti, the private collection of contemporary art of brand founder Achille Maramotti. The Afro-Caribbean artist’s artwork is titled Deadweight. They question the connection between black identity and the oceans. Her work combines nets, flags, ropes and bone-like mahogany to tell the often forgotten story of slavery and migration.
