Tom Kenny, SpongeBob’s English voice actor, has already revealed at a pop culture event that he sees the character as someone who is on the autistic spectrum
Tom KennySpongeBob’s English voice actor, revealed during an edition of Motor City Comic Con in Detroit that he sees the character as someone who is on the autism spectrum. When asked about it for the first time, Kenny described this characteristic as a type of superpower:
SpongeBob is also on the spectrum. The first time I was asked that question, a person who was obviously on the spectrum came up to me and said, ‘I have a question for you, Tom Kenny. Is SpongeBob autistic? Is SpongeBob himself autistic as a character?’ and I said, ‘Of course! And you know what? That’s his superpower.'”
