Following the laws of the British monarchy, which Disney characters would not be princesses?

The select group of princesses would become even smaller if these rules were taken into account; find out!

Throughout its almost 100 years of existence, Disney has brought great stories to the most varied homes, including narratives of royalty that were previously only present in fairy tales, but which were brought to the big screen with pompous balls, adventures and breathtaking romances starring the beloved princesses.

Although the most diverse animations and live-actions starring the figures holding the crown transmit magic and hope by showing that a great act of heroism can transform an ordinary girl into a princess, in real life, it would be very different — at least following the rules of the British monarchy.

At Disney, a girl is considered a princess if she is the daughter of a king, marries a member of royalty, or commits a notable act of bravery. Thus, the group that today consists of 12 noble women includes Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, and Moana — remembering that Anna and Elsa were also part of it, until they assumed the title of queens.

However, if the studio followed the rules established by the British monarchy, the number of princesses would be much smaller, since being born into the royal family or establishing a union with a prince would not necessarily make the beloved girls worthy of wearing the crown.

In the British monarchy

To understand better it is necessary to go back in time a little, more precisely to 1917, when the king George V created a “Letters Patent”, with the aim of defining which members of the British royal family would be entitled to the titles of prince or princess.

It was updated in 2012 by the Queen. Elizabeth II and, since then, the holders of noble titles are the sons of the monarch and his grandsons of male children, as well as the sons of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales.

Therefore, to be considered a princess in the royal family it is necessary to have direct descendants, as is the case with the queen’s daughter, princess Anneof the monarch’s granddaughters, princess Eugenie It is Beatrice and the great-granddaughter of Elizabeth IIdaughter of William It is Katethe princess Charlotte.

But what about marriage to royalty?

If a common girl marries a prince, she will receive the title associated with her husband, as was the case with Diana Spencer who, upon marrying Charles, became known as the Princess of Wales, since her husband was the Prince of Wales. The same applies to Kate Middletonwho became Duchess of Cambridge after marrying Prince Williamin 2011.

Following these rules, the only Disney princesses would be Snow White, Aurora, Ariel, Rapunzel, Anna, Elsa and finally, Jasmine, while the following names would be left out:
