Find out if ‘Inside Out 2’ and the 1985 film ‘Back to the Future’ have anything in common!
[CUIDADO! SPOILERS DE ‘DIVERTIDA MENTE 2’ A SEGUIR]
‘Inside Out 2’ is full of references! From animated classics to video games, one of the allusions that may have gone unnoticed among younger fans is to the science fiction blockbuster ‘Back to the Future’, released in 1985 under the direction of the filmmaker Robert Zemeckis.
In the film, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) ends up traveling to the year 1955 in a modified car after an experiment by eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) go wrong. The problem is that he meets the younger version of his parents, and ends up altering the past, potentially changing his present and future forever.
But, how does a feature film about time travel connect with the new animation from Disney and Pixar? It turns out that, right at the beginning of the sequel to the film released in 2015, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust are sent to a vault in Riley’s mind, where they meet the protagonist of a children’s cartoon that Riley secretly still likes, a character from video game she has a secret crush on and the manifestation of the girl’s Deep Dark Secret.
In this first meeting, it is not revealed what the big secret that Riley keeps so carefully is, but in the post-credits scenes, the audience gets the answer. That’s because, Alegria returns to the vault for a brief visit and states that it’s time to reveal what the Deep Dark Secret is, exposing that Riley hides that she was the one who burned the carpet in her parents’ house, and only she knows it.
The revelation, according to the portal ScreenRant, alludes to a quote from ‘Back to the Future’. In the feature film, before Marty McFly returns to 1985, he tells his reconciled parents: “If you ever had children, and one of them, when he was eight years old, accidentally set fire to the living room rug… go easy on him. him”, this being the connection between the films: both protagonists set fire to the carpet in their homes when they were still children.
