“I will always be free.” At the age of 63, Sean Penn is “delighted” with his celibacy.

After a string of marriages and relationships, Sean Penn now “would be delighted any day” to be single. in the interview given to New York Times This Saturday, June 22, the 63-year-old actor opened up about his new single life and his new vision for couples.

“The first thing I saw in the morning were eyes wondering what I was going to do to make them happy that day. Rarely reciprocated,” he said, recalling his past love stories.

Sean Penn was married to Madonna from 1985-1989. Then in 1996, he married actress Robin Wright, with whom he had two children, Dylan (33) and Hopper (30). After their divorce in 2010, the two-time Oscar winner married Australian actress Leila George. Their divorce was finalized in April 2022. In July 2023, Sean Penn was seen on the streets of Rome with a new companion, Ukrainian-born actress Olga Korotyaeva. The actor did not say whether they broke up.

“It was an attack”

Sean Penn also has very bad memories of one of his marriages, comparing it to a reality TV show. “Even without being in the same room (…) I was dying. I felt that my heart and brain were shrinking,” he said. “It was an attack.”

But today, the 63-year-old actor is at peace with his loneliness and is once again enjoying the taste of freedom. “I’m just free,” he added. If I have to be in a relationship, I will always be free, or I will not be in it, and I will not suffer. I don’t feel like I’ll ever get heartbroken by romance again.”
