With the premiere of “Inside Out 2” approaching, discover 5 interesting facts about the first film that can enrich your experience even more!
With the release of “Inside Out 2” approaching, there is nothing better than rewatching the first film to remember the important events. Before venturing into the sequel, RECREIO also separated five curiosities, both about the story and behind the scenes, that can further enrich your experience; check out!
1. The director was inspired by his own daughter to create Riley
Like the director himself, Pete Docterhe couldn’t identify with the protagonist, he based himself on his own daughter’s experiences, Elie Docter. Like Riley, she was a playful and fun child during her childhood, but, over time, she became a more taciturn and modest young woman, with a similar personality to Riley during the films.
2. Riley’s American voice actress actually cried while playing the character
The actress Kaitlyn Dias, who dubbed Riley’s voice in both films, says her tears are real in the moments when Riley cries. In the scene where she confesses to her parents that she ran away because she missed her old home, the actress says that she imagined her cat dying, which triggered the reaction.

3. The film would have a villain in the first versions
In the first versions of the plot of “Inside Out”, there was a villain called “Gloom”. He would be responsible for creating chaos in Riley’s mind. But in the end, the character’s role was switched by the collapse of the Personality Islands. The decision was made because “Gloom” was too close to being a personification of depression, and, as the idea was not to bring this emotion to the film, the character was removed.

4. “Inside Out” is dedicated to a Pixar software engineer
The first film in the franchise is dedicated to Brian Smits, a software engineer who worked at Pixar. He has acted in films such as “Up – Altas Aventuras (which was also directed by Pete Docter) and “Valente”, but unfortunately, he passed away in June 2013 after facing heart complications.

5. Fear was supposed to accompany Joy on the journey through Riley’s mind
In early drafts of the “Inside Out” script, it wasn’t Sadness who accompanied Joy on her journey through Riley’s mind. In fact, Fear would be the traveling companion instead of Sadness, but the team decided to abandon the idea. This is because they thought it would make more sense to have him alongside Anger and Disgust in the control center, in addition to thinking that fans might see the two of them together in a problematic way.
