A number of British celebrities gathered around their sovereign at the inaugural King’s Foundation Awards at St James’s Palace on Tuesday 11 June.
Singer Rod Stewart, ex-footballer David Beckham, actress Sienna Miller, model Naomi Campbell and British Vogue editor Edward Enninful… looking at the guests, you’d think they were at a social night like an Oscars after-party. In fact, all these British celebrities had gathered at the invitation of King Charles III. On June 11, the English sovereign opened the first award ceremony of his foundation, the King’s Foundation, at St. James’s Palace in London. Founded in 1990 when he was still the Prince of Wales, the King’s Foundation is a charity that aims to work “to build a sustainable world”. For this, it targets young people in particular, offering them training in crafts, architecture and design, as well as science, engineering, horticulture, welfare and hospitality. According to the American and British press, this awards ceremony opens a tradition that will now be held annually to honor students, teachers, alumni and foundation partners for their work for the organization.

For this inaugural awards ceremony, some of Britain’s biggest celebrities presented their awards to the winners. While appearing on stage next to his wife Penny Lancaster, Rod Stewart also spoke about David Beckham. “It’s also a great honor for me to be knighted, and David, it’s your turn soon,” he joked. The British singer was knighted in 2016 for services to music and charity. David Beckham was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003 for services to football. The former football player recently became a member of the King’s Foundation, which the organization announced on June 1. For the occasion, Victoria Beckham’s husband spent some time with Charles III in Highgrove Gardens before visiting some students.
