In their 11-year career, BTS has won over many fans around the world, even attracting the attention of Prince Michael, Michael Jackson’s son!
After the records achieved on the Billboard charts and through several collaborations with artists from all over the world, it would be difficult to find someone who does not know the name BTS. Even more so, someone who doesn’t admire the boy group’s talent, whether through their voice or dance.
Over more than a decade of career, BTS expanded its fan base and explored different musical genres, including gaining the admiration of Prince Michaelson of the eternal king of pop, Michael Jackson. During an interview conducted in 2023 with film producer Liam McEwan (via Koreaboo), he and Prince ended up sharing their thoughts about the boy group, addressing some interesting points about the most recent comebacks:
Liam: Obviously, they were heavily influenced by your father, like “Dynamite”, the choreography was very influenced by MJ. One of his most recent songs, “Butter”, starts with “smooth like butter, like a criminal undercover”. I noticed that ‘Smooth Criminal’ reference there (…) How does it feel to see a group as big as them honoring your father in such a cool way, but doing it in your own way? Does this make you emotional?
Prince: Their music kind of transcends culture (…) It’s very interesting to see them, and when I see this level of influence, which came through my father, it’s really cool how they show how they respect and honor honor and my father’s legacy. It’s very gratifying and touching to see that they have so much love and respect for him.
Furthermore, he also showed enthusiasm when commenting on how BTS has been adapting older trends for current generations:
It’s really cool to see that my dad was a trendsetter and that you can see how they are continuing these trends but also adapting them to the modern era and doing it their own way. It’s really cool to continue this creative flow.
