After all, who are the founders of Hogwarts?

Find out who Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw are, the founders of Hogwarts, from the Harry Potter franchise

In the “Harry Potter” franchise, created by the author J.K. RowlingHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is located somewhere in Scotland, and was founded around the year 990 AD, by the four greatest wizards of the time: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw.

If you are still new to this universe, RECREIO will introduce you to a little more about the four wizards responsible for creating the main magic school in the saga.

Rowena Ravenclaw

Responsible for the Ravenclaw house, Rowena was the most intelligent witch of her time. According to a popular theory in the wizarding world, she was responsible for choosing the name and location of Hogwarts, and they were chosen by her after a dream.

The witch was also responsible for developing the castle’s blueprint alongside the building’s architect, planning much of the school. As a teacher, she chose to educate only the students with the brightest minds and the desire to learn. It was weighing these values that she created a diadem, which she always wore and, according to legend, provided wisdom to anyone who wore it.

Her intelligence was so great that her daughter, Helena, became jealous and decided to steal the diadem and run away — a fact kept secret by Rowena even after she fell ill. Wanting to see the heiress one last time, she sent a man to bring her home — but her idea couldn’t have been worse.

The man in question was the Bloody Baron, who was completely in love with Helena and, when she refused to return, killed her after stabbing her. According to legend, Rowena died of a broken heart over the death of her daughter, who became the Ravenclaw ghost at Hogwarts.

Helga Hufflepuff

Valuing those who were fair and loyal, Helga Hufflepuff was against the idea of segregating students at Hogwarts and, according to the Sorting Hat, as described on the saga’s official website, Wizarding World, promised that she would teach everyone and treat them as equals , regardless of the size of their talents or their origins.

In the wizarding world, Helga was a great supporter of the house-elves’ cause. It was because of this that she had the idea of taking them to work in the Hogwarts kitchen, as there these beings would no longer be attacked, in addition to receiving a salary and the necessary respect.

Being extremely skilled at spells, the creator of the Hufflepuff house used a lot of her talent for cooking, creating most of the dishes present at school banquets, with her recipes being used to this day.

Salazar Slytherin

Also known for being an extremely intelligent wizard, unlike Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin used to use his wisdom for his own good, in addition to being very ambitious and also having Legilemency and Parselmouth skills.

At Hogwarts, he defended the idea that only pure-blood wizards should be taught, that is, those who came from entirely magical families, and that those born Muggles were not worthy of studying magic. It was because of this thought that Salazar fell out with the other founders numerous times, until he decided to leave school.

However, before leaving, he built a secret room in the castle (the Chamber of Secrets) where he housed a terrible monster that only he could control, the Basilisk, with the aim of purging Muggle-borns from the institution. The location would remain a secret until the arrival of his heir, who would be ready to finish his work — who in the main saga was Tom Riddle, the future Lord Voldemort.

However, anyone who thinks that Salazar’s heirs only did evil, just like Voldemort, is mistaken. One of her distant descendants was Isolt Sayre, responsible for finding the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she buried Slytherin’s wand in the institution’s grounds, transforming into a large snake tree with leaves with restoration powers.

Godric Gryffindor

In addition to being a great duelist, Godric, the founder of Gryffindor, was also known for his bravery and great skills. He was one of the main names to oppose Salazar Slytherin’s idea of Hogwarts education, and was also a great supporter of the fight against Muggle discrimination in the wizarding world.

For his house, Godric was extremely concerned about selecting only the brave students. Thus, to help with the selection, he provided his own hat, which was enchanted by him and the other founders with his characteristics and some of his abilities, becoming capable of separating the students into their respective houses: thus the Sorting Hat was born.

Because he was an excellent duelist, he even had a special sword created by the best goldsmith elves, Ragnuk the First. With his death — there is no information about when or how it happened — the item became a Gryffindor heirloom, appearing only to those students who demonstrated the most courage and proved to be true Gryffindors.
